The Design on a Dime
You do not have to settle for a home that is less than what you want. Many people think they cannot afford the design they dream of when they opt to build. Many times, people will settle for any house available and then decorate the interior to reflect their personal style, because they think it is going to be too much money for the architectural style they wish. That is erroneous thinking. There are plenty of ways to keep your budget from breaking the bank and still get a home you will be proud to call your own. You can be the envy of your family and friends if you do a little bit of research.
Before you begin, you must decide on what your budget will be and have a parcel of land on which to build. Hiring a landscape architect may not be in your budget, so planting shrubs, plants and flowers may be something you have to put off on until later. When you begin the actual building process there are some steps that must be completed in the proper order to ensure that the structure remains sound and strong. The foundation must be poured first, then the wall beams, once erected, and the insulation must be covered to ensure that rot does not take place in case of bad weather.
The design of your home begins when the builder takes the plans and begins the building process. Most times he or she will give you the option of what materials will be used to complete the interior. This is your opportunity to shine and make the home your own. There are some great options when it comes to picking out suitable finishes. For example, you may not be able to afford marble floors, but you can get the same great look with stained concrete.
Cabinets are another great way to save money and give your home a great look. Many people find recycled cabinets at discount stores, refinish the interiors and then give them new fronts and new hardware. You get have the look of new cabinets but at a fraction of the cost. While you are considering designs for the bathroom, you can take a look at antique bathtubs and sinks. A refinished bathtub, especially an old claw foot, gives a new home a unique, distinct look.
The design of a home is completely up to you. Make it unique and make it stand out from all the rest. Help the architect design the home with input from you. It is your home and one you will be living in for quite some time. You want it to be an extension of your personality. By working with the architect and letting him see your personal style, he or she can create a designer home of which to be proud.

Today's Tip On Architecture
The architect is usually expected to have a minimum of a four year degree and most architects go on to receive their Master's degree with extensive study in his or her selected field. After graduation, a period of internship is a great idea. It is one thing to study how to do something and an entirely different matter to put the new found knowledge into practice. Practical experience under a knowledgeable hand in this field is invaluable. The internship is a great opportunity to explore different techniques as well.
